In Italian, adjectives change shape to match the gender and number of the noun to which they refer. 1.) The ragazze – The singular version is “la ragazza”. If you do it in the plural, the article {la, le} must also agree. 2.) The ragazze hanno – “Hanno” is today indicative of the verb “avere-to have”. If you want to say that girls have something, you have to conjugate the verb to reflect that the subjects are more than one – which means they have. 3.) tre fiocchi – Here you say that there are three arches. Since there are three, it must be plural. The singular of the word “arc” is “il fiocco”. 4.) fiocchi verdi – The adjective that describes how the {green} arcs are must also correspond in number and sex. Meaning – Green must be changed to masculine and plural. If the nouns are all masculine or female, the adjectives retain this sex and are rejected according to the plural form. But how do the feminine and plural of adjectives come about? Simply by changing the end of the masculine singular! Most Italian adjectives end in -o and follow the usual declension of nouns.
