Repurchase Agreement Fixed Income

Pension transactions are generally considered to be a reduction in credit risk. The biggest risk in a repo is that the seller does not maintain his contract by not repuring the securities he sold on the due date. In these cases, the purchaser of the guarantee can then liquidate the guarantee in an attempt to recover the money he originally paid. However, the reason this is an inherent risk is that the value of the warranty may have decreased since the first sale and therefore cannot leave the buyer with any choice but to maintain the security he never wanted to maintain in the long term, or to sell it for a loss. On the other hand, this transaction also poses a risk to the borrower; If the value of the guarantee increases beyond the agreed terms, the creditor cannot resell the guarantee. The re-board operations take place in three forms: indicated delivery, tri-party and detention (where the “selling” party maintains the guarantee during the life of the pension). The third form (Hold-in-custody) is quite rare, especially in development-oriented markets, due in part to the risk that the seller may intervene before the transaction is completed and that the buyer will not be able to recover the guarantees issued as collateral for the transaction. The first form – the indicated delivery – requires the delivery of a predetermined loan at the beginning and maturity of the contract. Tri-Party is essentially a form of trading basket and allows a wider range of instruments in the basket or pool. In the case of a tripartite repurchase transaction, a third-party agent or bank is placed between the “seller” and the buyer.

The third party retains control of the securities that are the subject of the agreement and processes payments made by the “seller” to the buyer. Under a long-term repurchase agreement (Term Repo), a bank will accept the purchase of securities from a trader and resell them to the merchant shortly thereafter, at a predetermined price.
